Pewter Sculptures
Each work of art by John Scott is an original creation with painstaking care and attention to detail, anatomy and attitude of the subject.
Too much of the pewter on the market has lead in it to cheapen the work. Their works cannot be called “FINE PEWTER”.
John’s is 97% tin and a small amount of antimony. Therefore John calls his pewter items “Fine Pewter”.
Casting pewter is simple. One makes a mold of one’s art of a special rubber mold. This rubber will with stand temperatures of 500 degrees. That is the temperature which pewter is when melted to a pouring consistency. One pours the melted pewter into the mold and when cool removes the item and “wallah” there is your creation. There is a little chasing to do to clean the item for sale. Much less labor – that is why pewter is so less expensive than bronze.
